MIDI/OSC SETUP
APFX Plugins can be remotely controlled by external OSC/MIDI devices.
Learn how to use your external OSC/MIDI device with the Standalone version of our plugins or inside your DAW of choice.
OSC
MIDI
OSC
Standalone / DAWs
OSC can be used in the exact same way regardless of format (AU/AUv3/VST3/AAX/Standalone), DAW or OS.
Your PC running the APFX product and the external device used to send OSC messages (Smartphone/Tablet/PC etc) must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Simply send OSC messages to the IP and Port shown in the UI. If your PC has more than one network interface, check that the IP addres shown in the UI is the one currently in use, otherwise ignore it and use the correct one reported by the Operating System.
MIDI
APFX Products support only MIDI PC and the following MIDI CC messages: NoteOn, NoteOff and Control. Each function of the Stage Mode can be mapped to a different MIDI message.
IMPORTANT: not all plugin formats and DAWs fully support MIDI messages forwarding. Please read carefully the following guide to learn which features are available/missing in the different format/DAW combinations.
Pre Requirement: first of all, make sure that your MIDI controller is correctly recognized as a MIDI input by your DAW, and that MIDI messages are NOT filtered out by the DAW.
Standalone
In the Standalone version, open the settings and check that your MIDI controller is correctly recognized by the application and enable it.
In Standalone mode, all the Stage Mode features are available and fully functional.
REAPER
-
Create two tracks, one for Audio and one for MIDI. In the first one load your APFX plugin (AU or VST3).
In the MIDI track select your MIDI controller as input source, and arm the track. -
Create a send from the MIDI track to the Audio track, as in the picture above.
Now your Audio track receives audio from your guitar and MIDI messages from your MIDI controller. -
If you are using the AU version, all the Stage Mode features will be available and fully functional.
VST3 does not support PC MIDI inputs, that are instead mapped to the "VST built-in programs" in ascending order, as in the picture above. MIDI CC messages are instead fully supported.
LOGIC PRO
-
Create a new "Software Instrument" track and load your APFX plugins from the "AU MIDI-Controlled Effects" list.
-
From the Side Chain menu, select the audio input where your guitar is plugged in.
Now the plugin receives both audio and MIDI. You can also create a new Audio track for your guitar, send that to a bus and then select that same bus in the Side Chain menu. -
Logic Pro reserves MIDI Channel 1 for its own MIDI PC messages.
Make sure that your MIDI controller is sending messages on channel 2 or higher, otherwise the plugin will not receive them.
